Sikh Gurdwara Visit

I recently brought a class of my University's students to the Sikh Gurdwara(Temple) as an introduction to Sikhism. Many of them had never heard about the religion before. I gave them a mini-lecture as I guided them through the temple on a tour. I made them take off their shoes, wash their hands, cover their heads and even eat langar(free-kitchen). For my non-Sikh readers, 'Langar' translates to free kitchen. As Sikhs, in every temple, we provide free-kitchen or free food to anyone who visits our temple. As everyone, no matter what race or religion, is welcome to a Sikh temple, no one would go hungry. Therefore even you can go into a Sikh temple, with your head covered, to have a meal.

Anyways, the visit was a success. I was not in this class btw. My previous class' professor mentioned that he'd love such a tour and I volunteered thinking why not. Here are some pictures.

circle.

Junior just blogged about something rather interesting. He wrote about 'how sometimes friendship is more important than love'. I'd definitely agree. I think Juju would recall this phase in my life where I used to preach about how 'Love ain't worth losing friendships for'. It's rather powerful. Junior shed a different light on it saying how one can be 'Greedy for love'. Nicely put.

ahh bored. Got classes and work today. The usual. Time to see professor. laters wildcats.

birds.

I couldn't live the life of birds. there isn't a moment without hard work & perseverance. birds wake and before they take flight, they lookout for predators and any kind of danger. to take flight, they have to flap their wings with enormous amount of strength. the idea of literally spotting/finding food is on a whole different level. then bringing that food back to its family. once again, in everything it does, there is no rest + the fact that it thinks its in danger 24/7. could you? i do respect them hard working creatures including ants, bees, etc.

it's hard living without a pet. with Prince, there is always love in the garden. he's always waiting there to love you. just like Lucky did - she's an angel. Prince loves me much but being a male, he's got ego issues. At my uncle's place, we got fishes and birds. Parakeets + Goldfish, an Oscar and a Green Terror. Birds are lovely, they sing in the morning and through the day till dawn. Fishes are nice to keep, but they need lots of care to keep them alive. They easily die if the right care isn't given and it hurts when you've got a fish for a long time and it dies.

I've been doing research and I've come to realize that I might just have been overseeing the right hobby. I love fishes but better than that, I love Live Planted Aquariums. Instead of just having a fish tank with big fish, these tanks are big on decorating the tank with soil & actual plants to give it a certain look, with any kind of fish - big or small; preferably small. Thinking of starting soon if I can, but going to need lotsa dough. Check it out:

chinese.

Today I watched this movie 'Dark Matter'. It's about how a Chinese dude came from Shanghai to the states to study. He was preparing his PhD thesis and prepared a breakthrough project. It was so good that it was better than his Professor's very own thesis. His Professor got jealous at his brilliance that he denied and shut his thesis out. The Chinese dude eventually failed this grad school. Movie ended with the Chinese dude shooting his professor and the professor panel. (I think it was based on a true story that happened in the USA).

Anyways, what stood out the most from that movie was when couple of them Chinese boys were discussing the American thinking. They said, to climb a mountain one would say I need new hiking shoes; to paint you need a new set of colors; etc. which made sense. The Chinese way of thinking is very rooted, simple and focused. Didn't think I would say that but made me think of my life in Singapore and yet again.. how we're..I am blessed.

losing life.

just like fine sand escape your fingers; just like the sun secretly sets; just like age creepily adds on; just like termites subtly eat away - i'm losing life.

as conservatives, we spend a good 20 years realizing our ideal path. we waste the next 10 years living our parents dreams. we barely start living our lives past 30 when we finally say fuck this bullcrap. do you wake everyday with a smile? do you put on clothes and set out to do the things you die for? do you meet people whom you love and they love back? it's not just about you being happy. it's about every little thing you do in the every day that you live.. is supposed to fill you with joy. aren't we supposed to overflow with joy, pleasure and love? we live life once. we're overjoyed by birth and afraid of death. then why don't we grab every moment and accept it.

i'm stuck in this cassette of life. it's a tape on repeat being played on an old school deck. you and i are stuck in it. society tells you how to look at things - how to judge, accept, smell, eat, reject and give up or work like a dog. what are we working towards? what are we slogging for? what is money? pfft.

Jai, once told me about this streamline that everyone gets stuck in. He said not to fall into it. Taken the untaken path; live your own life. Wiseman's words. bigups to you boy. Hope everything's turning out well for ya. holla.

dont mean to bore ya.
(blame this post on damien rice's Delicate - it twirls with emotions.)

unexplainable.

Funny thing happened. After work, I stopped by Burger King to get a snack. While waiting in the drive-through, I looked upon my Guru's picture and thanked God for everything. I pulled out onto the street after getting my food and I got pulled over by the cops. He checked stuff and let me go, only after suspicious questions like 'Have you had anything to drink?' etc. Very rarely you get let go without a ticket. I thanked my stars and my Guru. Always felt with him in my car like that, I'm being taken care of. Blessed!

I'm running late. Work in an hour & I've yet to take a bath. Shucks!

procrastinating.

Taken in January. The Bay.

Juju's selling her handbags ladies & gents. She has put up a series of pics on FB if you haven't already seen. She's got labels from Prada to Salvatore Ferragamo. Sheesh! Check it out.

Weather's been weird here. As Spring's maturing, the sun's shy no more. Supposed to rain today but it did merely an hour. It's nice again out there.

pfft. im blogging coz im putting off reading my sociology. time to get to it i guess. laters guys.

life's adrenaline.

about the accident; in a nutshell, i survived. the only reason i could go on with my road trip was the heavy medication.

life's been pretty unpredictable recently. opportunities pop up randomly. they're only good if you grab 'em. The quarter began & the only thing in my mind was to study hard. My plans got rerouted when my uncle bought a new business. he purchased another restaurant, Tony Roma's. the only one in the Bay. i have been busy there ever since. it's exciting to be there and watch my uncle work his magic in managing it excellently. Life has become a rush of excitement for me ever since, in regards to balancing work, studies, social life, my personal life & hobbies. Definitely not easy, considering 4 out of 7 days I'm at the restaurant. I'm loving it, no doubt. but just need time to sort everything out.

side note: alex chew is starting a new company. Hoovix.com. He'd be doing everything from web designing to video editing etc. He hasn't even launched his website but MediaCorp came down to interview him. Great contacts innit? Anyways, just a shout-out. Good luck boy!

ps: what happened to 2009? It's April already!
